At one point Ra says that for the Rave it will be the selfishness of the penta: only the penta matters, and everything else can drop dead. Soon after he says there is no I for the Rave, no me, nothing personal, only selfless contribution to the program and to the emergence of the conscious penta. Read together, the individual Rave is selfless because it has no self, while the penta as a whole is selfish because it is the actual living unit. He contrasts both with humans: we must survive, we cannot be selfless, we keep an ego and an I. So the human selfishness he recommends, living correctly as yourself, is a different thing from the penta's. As with everything he said about the conscious penta, he framed this as speculation, and allowed that such a penta might never form.
