Two more full cycles, in Ra's account, and then the round closes. He names the sequence: into the Sleeping Phoenix, then Contagion, then Explanation. From about 2438 the precession enters Gate 30, the Right Angle Cross of Contagion. Explanation would follow in Gate 49. Ra does not name that gate; it follows from the backward order of the wheel. At one point he calls Explanation the last cycle in the round, places it toward the end of the third millennium leading into the fourth, and says that somehow there is going to be an answer. How the round closes is less clear. At another point he speaks of closing out in a return to the Sphinx, locking to the Sphinx, and the next gate on the wheel after 49 is 13, a Sphinx gate. Elsewhere he says the locks and keys will form a unique pattern at the end of the round and the door will close. Reading that as a fourth cycle in Gate 13 is our inference, not something he spells out. All of it lies far ahead: he placed the end of the round about 1,300 years away.
